Summary
Camille experienced theft, animal cruelty, and inadequate medical care. Idaho law addresses animal cruelty (Idaho Statute 25-3514) and theft (Idaho Statute 18-2403). For reclaiming her dog, proof of ownership is crucial (Idaho Statute 25-2804). She should gather evidence, consult a local attorney, and report to the Idaho Humane Society. For medical issues, she can file a complaint with the Idaho Board of Medicine, change providers, and seek help from Idaho Legal Aid.Full Conversation

Hello Camille, I'm here to help you with your legal queries. Can you please share more details about your situation?
I had surgery July * * and while In the hospital a potential boyfriend hurt my dog, I had to put him down when I was released, this man also stole money from me, stole the battery out of my car, everything of value from my home, including food storage and jewelry. He helped himself to whatever he wanted after taking my spare key that I had hidden out side for my daughter to come check on animals. During this same time frame a neighbor was babysitting my other dog both dogs are teacup Yorkies. The neighbor has not responded to any of my pleas to return my dog. I was told that they had my dog chipped and it's their dog to leave them alone. I'm on disability and had surgery * on my back which I've had complications with and have an infection at the surgical site which has made life miserable without the loss of my best friends
I'm really sorry to hear about your situation, Camille. Before proceeding, could you please tell me which state you're located in? This will help me provide you with the most accurate information.
Idaho
I'm sorry to hear about your situation, Camille. In Idaho:
- Animal cruelty is a misdemeanor, punishable by jail time and fines (Idaho Statute *-*).
- Theft is a crime and can be reported to the police (Idaho Statute *-*).
- For your neighbor, if you have proof of ownership, you may have a legal claim (Idaho Statute *-*).
Take these steps accordingly.
I reported the dog to the police and was told it's a civil issue. They didn't do anything.

*. Gather evidence of your ownership (receipts, photos, vet records).
*. Consult with a local attorney about filing a civil lawsuit for the return of your dog.
*. Report theft and animal cruelty to Idaho Humane Society.
*. Contact Idaho Legal Aid if you need free legal help.
