So my son's school had a field trip and I had to give them permission to conduct a background check on me to see if I could chaperone the field trip. I informed them that I have a criminal history but that it is decades old. The admin told me no problem they go back about 2 years and so I told her ok cool I filled out the authorization form and was informed about a week or more later that I didn't pass the background check. I figured ok no big deal but I had no trouble for many years and she told me they only go back 2 years at the time of authorization. Anyways the very next day that I was informed of my not passing this background check the school called CPS on me for picking my son up late from school. I was unaware that it was early release that day. Otherwise I'd have been there to pick him up. The school has very inconsistent notifications. There was no posted information on early release on their sign out front of his school. There was no text messages stating an early release. There was notification of conferences dates however that was *.* weeks prior to the actual conference week. Not to mention that on their app called parent Vue there was no notification of early release. There was nothing anywhere that indicated an early release. Only notification of conferences which as I mentioned was *.* weeks prior to actual conferences. I did receive an email from my son's teacher stating that the conferences were held on * different days one was Tuesday and the other was Thursday. This notice included open time slots for the parent to choose from. There was no Friday conference offered . I chose Thursday for conference. I was late to pick my son up on Tuesday because I had no idea that early release happened on conference days . I'm a new parent I'm not use to these things just yet. I received a call on that Tuesday at *:* pm stating that she had my son in the main office and I figured "oh he must be sick or something",bc i had no idea it was early release but she inform me then that it was an early release day. So I immediately picked him up. Then I was late on Friday bc I had no idea it was a conference day as I mentioned my son's teachers notice offered conference on Tuesday or Thursday, no mention of Friday conference. So when I picked him up on Friday the principal told me that they called CPS on me bc I was more than * min late * times and that's their policy.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. To clarify, would you like to file a complaint against the school for their inconsistent notifications and their decision to involve CPS?
