I received a $15000check the other day from my late Aunt's estate. Normally, I would deposit it into my bank account and wait the 10 days for it to clear. The problem I'm having is..10 days from now will be AFTER Christmas and I really need access to my funds. Yesterday I visited a local pawn shop\ check cashing business here in Michigan City, IN, where I live. They were willing to cash the check, no worries, however when they spoke with a representative at Merrill Lynch, which I the institution the check was issued from..after an hour on the phone, he refused to verify the check, unless the executer o my aunt's estate and I were physically there together. My cousin, is the executer of the estate ad lives in Owosso, MI. I live in NW Indiana, so that is not an option. If you have any information or advice regarding where I can get this check cashed , that would be great. Ty
Hello ****, I understand your situation. As per the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), a bank is generally required to deposit a check within few business days. However, if you need the funds sooner, you might want to consider reaching out to a check-cashing service or a different bank. Keep in mind, these places might charge a fee. Also, please ensure that your identification documents are up to date.
Yes, I did that. However, the representative at Merrill Lynch refused to verify the check. Wouldn't be an option to go to a Merrill Lynch office, in Chicago ( close to me) and see if they will cash it?
Given your situation, visiting a Merrill Lynch office in Chicago could be an option. However, you should call ahead to confirm if they can assist you. If not, consult with your local Indiana bank or contact legal aid for further advice.
