what can I do to have my rights back?
Hi! That sounds like a serious issue. Intellectual property rights regarding thesis work can be complex. Did you have any formal agreement or contract with your supervisor or the university about the ownership of your thesis?
I published my thesis in scientific articles in international academic journals, where the name of the supervisors must be included in the papers. Although, I published my thesis as a book, as single author. Although, one of the articles in the thesis was not published anywhere, and they copy parts from this article to include in a book, without my permission or including me in the book. I have permissions to publish the book from the journals and I was informed at the university that the author of the thesis is just me, since it is the job of the supervisors to supervise the thesis. Although, the authory of the thesis is exclusevely mine
It sounds like you may have grounds for a legal claim regarding intellectual property rights. Here are a few steps you might consider:
- Consult with an Intellectual Property Lawyer: Given the complexity, a specialized lawyer can help you navigate this issue.
- Gather Evidence: Collect all relevant documents, permissions, and communications related to your thesis and publications.
- Notify the Publisher: Inform the publisher of the book about the unauthorized use of your work.
- Contact the University: Report the issue to your university's legal department or ethics committee.
Would you like assistance in finding a local lawyer in Attica who can help you with this case?
I would love to hire a lawyer, but when i finished my thesis, I could not find a suitable job in my area, because the supervisor was lying on my character for not being discovered. So, I had to move out of my country (portugal) and move to other place where I could start fresh and I found a job not related with the university. ALl of this to say, that at this time, my resources are limited and cannot afford a spceilaized laywer
