I have a problem getting my overpaid half rent back from my former flatmate or agency, I am not sure who I should claim the overpayment from. The rent was * pounds, I paid *. The agency told me they cannot return it because the money has already been sent to the landlord, but they wrote that my share for the time I lived there was *.* pounds and that I should contact my former flatmate. I did. He says that he does not have to return anything even though he still lives there and I do not. He does not believe that the agency wrote me a notice with the amount actually due for the time I lived there. I asked the agency to send the information to my former flatmate, but they do not reply to my emails and I do not know if the information has been sent. What can I do in this situation?
Hi ****! In your situation, you might consider the following steps:
- Send a Formal Letter: Write a formal letter to the agency requesting they confirm in writing the amount you overpaid and send it to your former flatmate.
- Small Claims Court: If your flatmate refuses to refund the overpayment, you may consider taking the matter to a Small Claims Court.
- Keep Records: Document all communications with both the agency and your flatmate.
Have you tried sending a formal letter to the agency yet?
I have communication saved but its in polish...
You can try the following steps:
*. Translate Communication: Translate the saved communication from Polish to English. This will help the agency understand your request.
*. Formal Letter: Send a formal letter to the agency in English, attaching the translated communication.
*. Small Claims Court: If no resolution, consider filing a claim in the Small Claims Court for the overpaid amount.
Would you like assistance finding a translation service or more details on how to file a claim in Small Claims Court?

****, it sounds like you should send the formal letter directly to both the agency and your former flatmate. Here’s how you can proceed:
- Agency: Ask them to confirm the overpaid amount and send this information to your former flatmate in writing.
- Flatmate: Request the refund of the overpaid rent, including the confirmation from the agency.

How long should I wait for answer?

You should typically allow 14 days for a response from both the agency and your former flatmate after sending the letters. If you don't receive a response within this period, you may consider taking further action, such as filing a claim in the Small Claims Court.
,Can I ask about something else?
Sure, ****! What else would you like to ask about?
My ex roommate fakes basketball signatures on jerseys and sells them. Fakes QR codes that will redirect people to website with real certificate. I have pictures. I know I should report that but I was afraid living with him that he will cause troubles. Can I report that somewhere without my personal details?
