Traffic Violation Citation Dismissal

Summary

You may have a chance to get the citation dismissed by showing proof of insurance at the time of the stop, though this depends on the court. Generally, the insurance should cover the vehicle, not necessarily the driver, so having your partners name on the policy is advisable. Consider consulting a local attorney for a detailed assessment.

I was pulled over for a traffic violation, however i received a citation for no insurance. the vehicle i was driving doesnt belong to me, it belongs to my partner. The car ended up getting towed, and we got insurance a few hours later so we can have active insurance, and to tow the car out. the insurance we got first was under my name. we had to renew our insurance with another company so this new company we are insured under only has my partners name and not mine. My questions are is there a chance of getting my citation dismissed? and does the name on the insurance matter?
Hey Xavier!
Here’s some info that might help:
- Citation Dismissal: You might get the citation dismissed if you show proof that the car was insured at the time of the stop. However, this varies by court.
- Name on Insurance: Generally, the insurance must cover the vehicle, not necessarily the driver. It’s best if your partner’s name is on the policy.
