I have two issues should we address them one at a time?
Yes, Landen, let's address them one at a time. What's the first issue you're facing?
My employer has changed my tax status without my consent. I was listed as a w-* employee and taxes were deducted from my paychecks. Randomly my employer switched my tax status to and independent contractor without informing me or asking for my consent. Is this legal?
What state are you located in, Landen? The legality of this action can vary depending on your location.
I am in North Carolina

Now can we deal with my next issue?
Of course, Landen. Please go ahead and describe your next issue.
My employer told me verbally I could move into an apartment on the business property in May of *. He told me the leasing manager would be sending me a lease. They did not send my lease until the middle of July. I did not sign the lease because I was moving into my girlfriends house instead. Now my employer is saying that if I do not pay for the months of June and July that he will take it out of my paycheck. I have not signed any lease and there is no written agreement about me staying on the property. Can he legally charge me or deduct this money from my paycheck with no lease or written agreement?
Did you occupy the apartment at any point during June and July?
Yes
In North Carolina, without a signed lease, it's typically considered a month-to-month tenancy. However, withholding wages for unpaid rent may not be legal. Contact North Carolina Legal Aid at (*) *-*.
