I was living in Texas and employed. My manager confirmed I’d retain my position when I moved to PA since I was already working remotely. Under that assumption I saved up money and bought property in PA to develop. Right before I moved my aunt passed away so I was emotionally distraught and that same day my employer fired me without warning, reason or notice. I then became unemployed and my financial means of developing my land was gone. I signed a severance agreement because I didn’t think I had much choice but in retrospect I was distraught at the time and think I should have sued.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation, ****. It sounds complex and distressing. To help further, could you please share whether your severance agreement contained any clauses about waiving your rights to sue or legal recourse?
Yes it did.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. In general, signing a severance agreement with a clause waiving your right to sue can complicate things. However, you might still have options depending on the circumstances, such as being under duress when signing. It's important to consult a local employment attorney in PA for advice.
I can’t afford one.
I understand your concern, ****. Here's what you can do:
- Seek help from local legal aid organizations in PA.
- Check PA's bar association for pro bono services.
- Law schools often have free legal clinics.
These can provide legal advice at no cost.
Do you have any specific recommendations?
Certainly, ****. Here are a few organizations you might consider:
*. Philadelphia Legal Assistance: They offer free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals.
*. Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network: They provide assistance on a variety of issues.
*. University of Pennsylvania Law School's Legal Clinic: Law students supervised by experienced attorneys offer free legal services.
