I have been with my current employer for nearly 3 years. I interviewed got hired got promoted With my current hair color, which In some lights can look dark purple. Yesterday I got an email from my boss, saying that my hair was not in dress code and that at one point she thought I had more red hair. I have had the same hair color for seven years. My supervisor is asking me to change my hair color is that legal?
In Arizona, employers generally have wide discretion to set dress codes, including hair color. Exceptions would be if:
- The request is discriminatory based on race, religion, etc.
- There's a contract or policy stating otherwise.
