Summary

If a lawyer in Mississippi did not perform any work on your case, you might not be obligated to pay the remaining balance. However, if your contract includes a non-refundable retainer fee, you may still be required to pay. Always review your contract terms and consider seeking a second opinion for clarity.

I’m under contract for with a lawyer. The case has been resolved on its on and I never needed the lawyer’s assistance. The service that was provided for flat fee that I’m required to pay wasn’t needed and didn’t help with resolving the case. Am I still required to pay the remaining balance?
Hello Jasmine! It will depend on the terms of the contract you have with your lawyer. However, generally:
- If the work is completed as per contract, you may be obligated to pay
- If the lawyer didn't do any work, you might not have to pay the balance
May I ask which state you're located in? Laws can vary.
The service hasn’t been completed because it was never needed. It was never even on the case and I didn’t know that
Thank you for your detailed explanation, Jasmine. It seems like you're dealing with a tricky situation. Can you please tell me the state you're located in so I can provide accurate information about your legal obligations?

In Mississippi:
- You may not be obligated to pay if the lawyer didn't do any work.
- However, if your contract mentions a non-refundable retainer fee, you'll have to pay.
- I'd recommend clarifying this with your lawyer or seek a second opinion.
Okay thank u
