Ok from the start of my rental lease there was a confusion from day one. The lease started on August 1st but the landlord said rent wasn’t due til September 1st I paid a security deposit and last months rent deposit.
Hello ****, I understand your confusion. Could you please clarify if you have a written lease agreement that states when your rent is due? Also, could you please tell me your location? This would help me provide more accurate legal information.
Yes but I’ve been a month behind apparently but can the landlord use my security deposit or last months rent to help catch up?
Hello ****,
Generally, a security deposit is not used for rent unless the lease ends or there is damage to the property. The usage of last month's rent can vary based on local laws. Can you please provide your location to give you a more accurate response?
