Did you report the issue to your landlord or property management?

General Information:
- Document the damage with photos.
- Report to your landlord immediately.
- You may be entitled to compensation for damages.
Yes i did, this was about week ago, they are sending a PAINTER today to look at the damage, i dnt think a painter is the corrclect.person for this job
What kind of damage has been caused by the water leak?

General Information:
- If it's structural, a professional assessment may be needed.
- Keep all communication with your landlord documented.
Big water spot from ceiling leading into closet/wall, im assuming any type of water damage, drywall, some of.my storage items, clothes, antique sewing machine passed down from my grandmother.
Have you contacted your renter's insurance about the damage to your personal items?

General Information:
- Renter's insurance may cover personal property damage.
- Keep receipts of damaged items for claims.
Not yet, i forgot to think about that
It's important to contact your renter's insurance as soon as possible. They can guide you on how to file a claim for your damaged items.
My property isnt much concern, im more looking into if im in position for rental compensation for the time being and until the issue is fixed/corrected
Have you been unable to use your rented property due to the damage?
We are no longer using the room for.the time being, had to rearragne thing from there outtve precaution, have electronics that i dont want in while.this is still on going
What state are you located in? This will help me provide you with the most accurate information regarding tenant rights in your area.
California
In California, tenants have the right to "repair and deduct" or withhold rent in certain circumstances. Have you considered these options?
I had but i do not know how to go about the process
What is the extent of the damage? Is it making your living conditions uninhabitable?

General Information:
- In California, tenants can withhold rent if the landlord fails to fix serious defects that violate the "implied warranty of habitability".
Not unliveable but, with water damage i assume health issue can arise like mold etc, also noticed maintenance dont provide quality work, more so band-aid repairs
In California, if repairs aren't made in a reasonable time, you may be able to withhold rent or repair and deduct. Consult a local attorney for guidance.
